Badger Associate Head Coach Paris Lamont Gets Top Job at Chattanooga

University of Wisconsin men’s basketball associate head coach Paris Lamont has been hired as the new head coach at Chattanooga.

It will be the first head coaching job in his 20-year coaching career.

“Extremely happy but sad to see him go,” said UW Assistant Coach Howard Moore in a text message to Madison365. “He’s a hell of a coach and he’ll be terrific as a head coach!”

Paris spent seven seasons on the staff at Wisconsin under head coaches Bo Ryan and Greg Gard. Gard named him associate head coach, the title Gard held under Ryan, in 2016. Paris’s coaching career includes stints at Wooster, where he played for four years, as well as DePauw, Indiana University-Pennsylvania, and Akron.

Lamont is the Mocs’ fourth head coach in six years. He replaces Matt McCall, who left to take the head coaching job at UMass after two seasons. Lamont inherits a team with a 19-12 record in 2016/17, but will have to rebuild almost entirely from scratch; all five of the team’s top scorers were seniors.

Evan Daniels of Scout.com first reported the six-year deal Sunday.
