Nancy Lieberman is regarded as one of the greatest figures in women's basketball.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dane County (BBBS) will hold its annual Dream BIG Gala fundraiser on Thursday, June 23, to celebrate 50 years of one-to-one mentoring in Dane County.

Since 1966, BBBS has been providing children the strong support they need to be in a better position to find success in school and in life. They serve more than 650 at-risk children in Dane County and its mission is to provide children facing adversity with a strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one mentor relationship that can change the life of a child for the better, forever.

Fifty current matches, Sacramento Kings Assistant Coach, and Big Sister Nancy Lieberman, community supporters, and members of the Wisconsin Badgers men’s and women’s basketball teams will all be in attendance at the Dream BIG Gala fundraiser.

Lieberman — the first female coach of a men’s professional basketball team — will be the Gala’s guest speaker. As a Big Sister, she knows how the power of mentoring has helped her reach new heights, including the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Olympics.

“We are excited to welcome Nancy Lieberman to Madison,” BBBS CEO Sandy Morales said. “She will help us celebrate the impact of volunteer mentors but also inspire others to invest in long-lasting relationships.”

The Gala is BBBS’s biggest fundraiser of the year, where many exclusive prizes will be auctioned away: a Park City lodge, a Mexican resort, and a Packers tailgate experience at Lambeau Field. The premier item is a week-long trip to Tuscany for six that includes breathtaking sights and private cooking lessons with an Italian chef.

All of the support from the Gala helps BBBS work toward its primary vision: that all children achieve success in life.

“We want to continue building more relationships, but it will take both volunteers and financial resources to ensure that each Big and Little has a trusting and enduring relationship,” Morales said.

The Gala will take place Thursday, June 23, 5:30 p.m. at the Madison Marriott West.
