Duffy Out of Senate Race

Congressman Sean Duffy will not seek to unseat US Senator Tammy Baldwin next year, Duffy announced Thursday.

“After much prayer and deliberation, Rachel (Campos-Duffy) and I have decided that this is not the right time for me to run for Senate. We have eight great kids and family always comes first,” Duffy said in a statement released on Thursday morning. “Baldwin will be beat because her radically liberal Madison record and ideas are out of (sync) with Wisconsin. I look forward to helping our Republican nominee defeat her.”

Duffy, who represents Northern Wisconsin in the United States Congress, got into hot water earlier this month when he said “there is a difference” between white nationalist terrorism and Muslim extremist terrorism, and said some good came from the murder of nine African Americans in a Charleston church because it led to the removal of the Confederate flag from the South Carolina capitol.

Duffy had widely been seen as the leading Republican contender to challenge Baldwin. His decision opens the door for other possible candidates like Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke, who has an out-of-state coalition urging him to run, State Senator Leah Vukmir, Madison businessman Eric Hovde, State Representative Dale Kooyenga and Milwaukee businessman Kevin Nicholson.
