"Faces of Incarceration: Changing the Narrative"

“Faces of Incarceration: Changing the Narrative” will take place April 8, 5-9 p.m. at Winnebago Studios Gallery, 2046 Winnebago Street.

This art event aims to shift the dialogue around mass incarceration and the perceptions we have about people once or currently caught up in the systemic policies that result in disproportionate incarceration of people of color.

Mickey’s Tavern will still host images of this show from March 25 through April 30. Please join us on April 8 from 5-9 for an event featuring masterfully rendered portraits and touching real stories of people once and currently incarcerated, men and women whose lives represent the thousands of people caught up in the Wisconsin prison system.

Artists include Fikrye Oz, Philip Salamone, Vera Nikiforov, Kyle Martin, Philip Ashby, Molly Bryant, Lucas Biachi, Brigette Bouchet, Trisha Duren, Steven Wysocki.

Sabrina Progress Madison, Motivational Speaker Socialpreneur Poet, and sister to three incarcerated brothers, will perform spoken word poetry; and Oscar Mireles, Madison’s first Latino Poet Laureate will read his works on incarceration.
