At least one assailant opened fire at Cameo Nightclub in Cincinnati, Ohio at around 1:00 this morning, injuring 14 and killing one, police said.

Some reports have indicated that more than one shooter may have been involved. No suspect is in custody, and there is no clear motive for the shooting. Police have said they do not have any indication that it was a terrorist attack.

Online reviews and reports indicate that the club, on Kellogg Avenue near the Ohio River, draws a primarily African American audience. It is managed by Julian Rodgers, a longtime staple of the Cincinnati entertainment scene.

Police have not released any description of the suspect or suspects involved. Calls and emails to the Cincinnati Police Department inquiring as to possible motives were not immediately returned.

“Saturday nights it’s a very young crowd,” Police Captain Kim Williams told reporters. “We have had incidents here in the past, but … this is the worst by far.”

Williams also said the number of victims might rise as several were transporting themselves to area hospitals.

She said it was unclear what instigated the shooting, but that it began inside the club. It’s not yet clear whether the club was targeted or whether the shooting erupted as the result of an altercation.

Four off-duty police officers were providing security outside the club at the time.
