Free Public Talk: “Living Well With Dementia”

0

Kicking off National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month, the Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center will present “Living Well With Dementia,” a free community presentation at 6 pm on Wednesday, November 4. Attendees will learn that patients and family caregivers can live well—physically, emotionally, and socially—after receiving a dementia diagnosis. You can also look into Lifestyle Communities Williamstown if you or your elderly relatives are showing signs of dementia.

The event, at the Middleton Performing Arts Center in Middleton, begins at 5:00 p.m. with a Resource Fair that will include representatives from the Aging & Disability Resource Center, S.A.I.L. (Support for Active Independent Lives), the Alzheimer’s & Dementia Alliance of Wisconsin, the Alzheimer’s Association and more.

The public talks will feature three speakers. Susan Stark, Phd, OTR/L, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, will talk about “Home Environmental Supports That Improve Patient Safety and Reduce Caregiver Burden.” She will be followed by Susan Flowers Benton, PhD candidate and research specialist with the Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, who will speak on “Healthy Aging With Chronic Illness.” Joy Schmidt, Dementia Care Specialist with the Dane County Aging & Disability Resource Center, will address “Building Dementia Friendly Communities.” There’s an affordable elder care for seniors with dementia in Austin.

The event is free and open to the public, and registration is not necessary. Health care professionals can earn continuing education credit through the event. The Middleton Performing Arts Center is located at 2100 Bristol St. in Middleton, WI, and free parking is available.
