University of Wisconsin police are investigating vandalized property at the Wisconsin Institute of Discovery that was reported Monday night.

Graffiti of a stick figure hanging from a tree by a noose was found in a men’s bathroom. The N-word was written out next to the image, officials said.

It is unclear what time the incident happened on campus, since there are no cameras in the bathroom, but police were notified of the graffiti around 7 p.m. The investigation is ongoing.

This is the fourth incident of discrimination that has been been reported at UW this month. UW-Madison Chancellor Rebecca Blank sent an email to students Tuesday.

“We’ve seen a troubling string of incidents reported through our hate and bias reporting system that have directly affected and hurt members of our diverse community,” the email said.

“The fact that all of these other things did happen I think it makes it more disappointing and more motivating for us to find who might have been responsible for it,” UW Police Department spokesperson Marc Lovicott said.

“Let me take a moment upfront to say unequivocally that the behaviors displayed in these cases are completely unacceptable. They hurt fellow Badgers, make our campus a less welcoming place and do not reflect our shared community values,” Blank said in the email.

Blank announced several new initiatives to address the issues.
