A Madison homeless shelter will stay open after an area business decided to help out.

A1 Furniture told News3 it will donate a large sum of money to keep Porchlight’s Safe Haven Shelter open.

The facility provides those dealing with homelessness and mental illness housing, meals and other basic needs.

For the first time in 22 years, Safe Haven is not receiving $350,000 in federal funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Representatives with A1 Furniture will release the details of their donation during a press conference this afternoon.

They will also issue a challenge to other Madison businesses to match their contribution.
