The Madison Metropolitan School District is welcoming new four and five-year-old kindergarten students and families at enrollment day on Monday, March 6, 2-6 p.m., at all district elementary schools. Enrollment is for families who have not previously attended four-year-old kindergarten.
“We believe in holding every child to high expectations and providing the support they need to meet that high bar,” Superintendent Jennifer Cheatham said. “We’re looking forward to welcoming new families to our district through kindergarten enrollment.”
Enrollment Details
To save time at enrollment, parents or guardians are encouraged to visit www.mmsd.org/enroll, to begin the process online. On enrollment day, parents and guardians will be asked to show proof of age for their student (birth certificate or medical assistance card) and proof of residency (utility bill, lease or mortgage). Children are welcome to accompany parents to enrollment, but they are not required to attend.
Four-year-old kindergarten
Four-year-old kindergarten (4K) for the 2017-18 school year is open to all children who live within the district and will be four years old on or before September 1, 2017. Students outside of MMSD may also open enroll into the district to participate in the program.
The half day 4K program is held at more than 50 MMSD elementary schools and early care and education centers. The program is offered free of charge for families who live within the MMSD or open enroll into the district for the program.
Unlike five-year-old kindergarten, which is based on attendance areas, parents or guardians may register their student for 4K at any available site. For more information, visit www.mmsd.org/4k.
Five-year-old kindergarten
Five-year-old kindergarten for the 2017-18 school year is open to all children who live within the district and will be five years old on or before September 1, 2017.
Five-year-old kindergarten enrollment is only for families who have a child who has not been in an MMSD 4K program. Families whose children currently attend 4K within the MMSD do not need to register again and will only need to attend the enrollment date at their child’s school in August.
