University of Wisconsin men’s hockey head coach Tony Granato has been named as the head coach of the U.S. Olympic Men’s Hockey team for 2018.

Granato will continue to coach the UW hockey team as well, but will miss a few series in February to handle his Olympic duties.

Granato has been the head coach at Wisconsin a little over a year, leading the team to a 20-15-1 record last year.

In addition, former UW and longtime NHL player Chris Chelios will join Granato as an assistant coach on the team.

“There’s no greater thrill in hockey to wear the sweater, wear the colors (at the Olympics),” Granato said. “I’m humbled and honored by the position.”
