University of Wisconsin-Madison Vice Provost and Dean of Students, Lori Berquam, has announced that she was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and will begin chemotherapy next week.
Berquam released a message to the campus community on Friday informing students she’d be “looking a little different” during commencement in three weeks, referring to her expected hair loss.
Berquam has no plans of stepping down from her job, though, stating that she may not be at every event, but will continue to do the job she loves.
“I’ve had the privilege of supporting a number of student organizations that volunteer and raise funds to fight cancer and help survivors and their families,” said Berquam in her statement. “It’s shown me how powerful our community can be. This knowledge is a comfort and a source of strength and inspiration to me now and I hope it can be for others as well.”
