Wisconsin Badgers Men's Basketball team on the plane ride home after upsetting No. 1 Villanova

After knocking off top-seeded Villanova this past Saturday, the Wisconsin Badgers basketball team will face off against No. 4 seed Florida on Friday evening at 8:59 p.m.

Wisconsin became the nation’s only team to advance to the Sweet 16 in each of the last four years. The Badgers (27-9) will take on No. 4 seed Florida on Friday evening at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Wisconsin posted its fourth-ever win over a No. 1 seed on Saturday by defeating top-ranked Villanova, 65-62, in Buffalo, New York. Nigel Hayes scored 19 points, including the game-winning layup with 11.4 seconds left. Bronson Koenig added 17 as the Badgers out-scored the Wildcats 15-5 in the final 5:30.

Florida’s resounding 65-39 win over No. 5-seed Virginia in its second-round NCAA Tournament game Saturday night was the result of a 21-0 run heading into and coming out of halftime to blow past a Virginia team that came in with the top-ranked defense in Division I.

Greg Gard has now piloted the Badgers to the Sweet 16 in each of his first two years as a head coach. Over the last 20 years, only two other coaches have taken their team to the NCAA tournament’s second weekend in their first two seasons in charge: Steve Lavin (UCLA) in 1996-97 and Mark Few (Gonzaga) in 2000-01.
