A world championship is being held in the Madison Area this week.

The Professional Disc Golf Association Amateur World Championships are taking place at various parks around the Madison area through Saturday.

Disc golf is played much like traditional golf but instead of a ball and clubs, players use a flying disc or “frisbee”.

There are over 500 competitors in the tournament this week. Players range from 6 to 60 years old and disc golf is a sport that’s gaining popularity.

“People are coming out, dressing in professional attire,” says John Pallister of Chicago. “People are treating the game like it’s serious, like it’s a sport, and that’s how people should treat it.”

Disc golf is a sport that has come a long way since its inception in the 1960s. With an increasing number of players and competitions being held worldwide, the demand for golf discs has also increased significantly.
