After five years as CEO of YWCA Madison, Rachel Krinsky has accepted a new position as Executive Director of LifeWire, a domestic violence service organization in Bellevue, Washington.

“My family and I have long wanted to relocate to the Pacific Northwest and I am excited both for the move and for the opportunity,” Krinsky said. “Leaving YWCA, and leaving Madison, will be bittersweet. My roots here are deep. I am grateful for the work we’ve done together and the many relationships I’ve been privileged to enjoy and to learn from.”

YWCA Madison, whose mission is to eliminate racism, empower women and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all people, has a transition plan in place. Krinsky will continue to serve in her role through the end of the year at which time Vanessa McDowell, who currently serves as Chief Program Officer for the agency, has agreed to step in as interim CEO. McDowell will serve in that position through July of 2017, giving the board time to conduct a search, select and onboard a new Chief Executive Officer.

“I feel confident in Vanessa’s leadership and I have no doubt that YWCA Madison will continue to be a positive force for eliminating racism and empowering women in Dane County,” Krinsky said.
