Forward Madison FC and the Featherstone Flamingos, a supporters’ group who aim to celebrate and promote Black culture, have partnered to design and release the FMFCxFeatherstone Legacy Hoodie, with 100% of the proceeds going to Urban League of Greater Madison, the club announced Friday.
This collaboration piece, celebrating Black History Month, is the second for FMFC and Featherstone, after 2021 Jesse Owens track jacket.
“This Black History Month piece is not about the individual, but rather the legacy created that can be carried forward,” Featherstone Flamingos member Chris Fox said in a club-issued statement.
The Legacy Hoodie was designed to pay homage to Black athletes that have graced the city of Madison and state of Wisconsin with their talents. Specifically, the hoodie has a baseball-style pinstripe made up of the word “Legacy” repeated. This design element is a nod to the Negro League game that was played at Breese Stevens Field in 1947, where ace pitcher Satchel Paige of the Kansas City Monarchs famously defeated the Industrial League All-Stars 14-5.
“We believe it’s important to recognize Black excellence in the past and continue today to support organizations like the Urban League of Madison, who are shining lights in our community,” Forward Madison COO and Owner Conor Caloia said in a statement. “We are excited to be working with the Featherstone Flamingos again on this special release.”
The Urban League of Greater Madison aims to “ensure that African Americans and other community members are educated, employed and empowered to live well, advance professionally and contribute to the common good in the 21st Century,” according to its website.
Pre-orders for the Legacy Hoodie are now live on the Forward Madison website and will conclude on March 1, 2022. Orders will ship and be available for pickup 3-5 weeks after purchase.
