Derek Gebhard, who scored the third-most goals for Forward Madison FC with five in 2021 will return for the 2022 season, the club announced Friday.

Only forwards Jake Keegan and Ryan Sierakowski scored more with six each. Gebhard was also among the team’s best in shots (third on the team with 25) and chances created (second on the team with 24).

Gebhard scored the USL League One Goal of the Month for May, a stoppage-time winner to give the Mingos a victory over North Carolina FC in the club’s first game at Breese Stevens Field in more than 600 days, after the pandemic forced the club to play its 2020 home matches in Wauwatosa.

Gebhard joined the club in 2021 after three seasons in the second-tier USL Championship with EL Paso Locomotive (where he played against Forward Madison in a 2019 US Open Cup match), OKC Energy and Charlotte Independence.

Gebhard joins midfielder Aaron Molloy and goalkeeper Phil Breno in forming a core of returning players for new head coach Matt Glaeser. The USL League One schedule has not yet been announced.
