Positive coronavirus test rate rises near 10 percent

The rate of coronavirus tests returning positive results rose Sunday to 9.6 percent — up from 6.7 — as just over than 10,000 tests returned 957 positive results, according to state and county public health data. That brings the total case count for Wisconsin to 48,827. Of those, nearly 9,700 are considered active — about the same number as Saturday.

Additionally, one more fatality was reported, bringing the state’s death toll to 892. Additionally, 18 people who tested positive for coronavirus infection died of other causes, and are not counted as covid fatalities.

The highest local new case count came in Milwaukee County, with 279 new cases and 13.8 percent of tests coming back positive.

Barron County: 17 new cases, 60.71 percent positive tests
Brown County: 31 new cases, 11.4 percent positive tests
Dane County: 50 new cases, 4.72 percent positive tests
Fond du Lac County: 13 new cases, 41.94 percent positive tests
Iron County: 13 new cases, 11.11 percent positive tests
Kenosha County: 16 new cases, 2.33 percent positive tests
La Crosse County: 10 new cases, 4.27 percent positive tests
Manitowoc County: 19 new cases, 65.52 percent positive tests
Marathon County: 28 new cases, 25.69 percent positive tests
Outagamie County: 43 new cases, 18.7 percent positive tests
Racine County: 25 new cases, 7.84 percent positive tests
Rock County: 11 new cases, 9.91 percent positive tests
Sauk County: 15 new cases, 4.5 percent positive tests
Walworth County: 27 new cases, 15.43 percent positive tests
Washington County: 25 new cases, 36.76 percent positive tests
Waukesha County: 138 new cases, 67.65 percent positive tests
Waupaca County: 37 new cases, 52.86 percent positive tests
Winnebago County: 23 new cases, 31.08 percent positive tests

The rate of disparity in Latino populations has improved but continues to stand out. Twenty-five percent of total cases are now Latino people, as are 20 percent of today’s cases. Latinos make up just seven percent of the state’s overall population.

Similarly, 15 percent of all cases are Black people, as are 23 percent of total COVID-19 related deaths in the state. Black people make up just six percent of the state’s population.
