Positive test rates hold steady as Wisconsin reports nearly 1,500 new cases

The state of Wisconsin reported just under 6,400 new coronavirus tests on Saturday, of which 1,493 were positive, for a positive test rate of about 23.5 percent. The seven-day average of new cases per day has fallen to 1,365.

The state of Wisconsin also reported 33 COVID deaths on Saturday, bringing the total death toll to 5,893. Since March, an additional 190 people have tested positive for COVID but died of other causes. The seven-day average of reported deaths fell slightly to 29.7.

The seven-day positive rate for all people tested, which would be less subject day to day fluctuations in testing, increased slightly from 19.3 to 19.5 percent, while the positive rate for all tests slipped slightly from 5.4 to 5.3 percent, the lowest rate to date.

The state also reported Thursday that 98,754 Wisconsin residents have completed the COVID-19 vaccination series, about 8,000 more since yesterday. In all, 514,311 vaccine doses have been administered, more than 44,000 since yesterday.

The estimated number of active cases — diagnosed in the past 30 days — fell slightly to just over 19,500, about 3.6 percent of the 541,409 total cases confirmed in Wisconsin.
