State Rep. LaKeshia Myers (D-Milwaukee) has announced her candidacy for Wisconsin’s 4th Senate District special election.

The 4th Senate District seat is currently vacant due to the resignation of State Sen. Lena Taylor following her appointment to the Milwaukee County Circuit Court.

“Yesterday, Governor Tony Evers announced that there would be a special election to fill the 4th Senate District seat that was vacated by Judge Lena Taylor,” Myers said in a press release. “In light of the recent announcement, I would like to announce that I do intend to run for the Senate in the special election. I will also continue my race for the 4th Senate District in the August primary.”

Myers, a former educator with the Milwaukee Public Schools, was first elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly in 2018. Previously, she served as an education director for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.

The special election for the 4th Senate District will be held on July 30. If a primary is necessary, it will be held on July 2,
