Jessica Cavazos, president and CEO of the Latino Chamber of Commerce

Jessica Cavazos has been named the president and CEO of the Latino Chamber of Commerce of Dane County effective immediately.

The Latino Chamber of Commerce’s members, in conjunction with its board of directors, voted to change the leadership structure to facilitate its partnerships with Dane County’s business community. The title has been changed to reflect the organizational structure of the many corporations and businesses the Chamber will interface and partner with over the coming year.

“When meeting with members and community leaders, this will facilitate our work as peers in promoting the Dane County economy and the role Latino businesses play within that growing economy,” said Cavazos in a statement.

Cavazos had been the executive director of the Latino Chamber of Commerce of Dane County since September of 2016 when she became the first full-time leader in the group’s history.

Cavazos was formerly the president of the Eleva Group, an organization whose mission was to create social programs, help non-profits with governance issues and assist for-profit and non-profit entities in implementing initiatives aimed at promoting actions that are both economically and socially beneficial. In addition to her work with the Eleva Group, Cavazos has extensive experience in government relations, policy, community engagement and business development. She also worked as a Congressional Liaison for eight years in the office of Congresswoman Gwen Moore.

The LCC former president, Mayra Medrano, will now chair the board of directors. Juan José López, the former vice president, will be the vice chair. The board of directors is comprised of 11 professionals and business owners from the Madison-area community.

“The Latino Chamber of Commerce of Dane County is growing to better suit the needs of the Latino business community,” Medrano tells Madison365. “I am proud the board of directors and members of the LCC voted to change Jessica Cavazos’s title from executive director to president/CEO. We are an organization that supports and develops businesses and therefore we must mirror business organizations. As now chair of the board of directors, I will continue to work closely with the president/CEO to strategically collaborate with business advocacy organizations, other chambers, and the public sector to bring value to our stakeholders.”

Founded in 2003, the Latino Chamber of Commerce of Dane County is a non-profit organization that represents the Latino and non-Latino business community in the greater Madison area. The Chamber assists and promotes the interests of its members and community through advocacy and programs that make an overall impact on Dane County’s economic growth.
