State Representative Dana Wachs of Eau Claire is the second candidate to leave the crowded field of candidates in the Democratic primary for governor since a Marquette University Law School poll showed Tony Evers with a commanding lead.

In a statement issued Friday morning, Wachs called for unity and endorsed Evers.

“Now is the time for unity. Now is the time to fight for Wisconsin’s future. That is why I’m proud to endorse Tony Evers for governor,” he wrote. “He is a good man and a tireless advocate for our schools, workers, and families. Wisconsinites clearly agree, since Tony has been elected State Superintendent three times, most recently winning 70 of 72 Wisconsin counties just over one year ago. I believe that Tony will lead Wisconsin with honor and integrity.”
Milwaukee businessman Andy Gronik dropped out of the race Thursday.
