Positive test rate over 30% as hospitalizations, active cases spike

The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Wisconsin jumped by 114 to 1,648 as the patient population alternate care facility in Milwaukee rose from eight to 13 overnight. The total number currently hospitalized is 298 higher than Sunday.

Other numbers were lower today: with only 8,846 tests reported — less than half of the number of tests reported Sunday — the state of Wisconsin confirmed 3,433 new coronavirus cases and five deaths on Monday. That makes for a 38 percent positive test rate for the day and raises the state’s seven-day rate to 30.1 percent.

The total number of cases ever confirmed in Wisconsin is now 232,295, of which about 48,366 — just under 21% — are considered active. That’s up by about 1,000 cases from Sunday.

The seven-day average of new cases per day rose to 4,331. The seven-day average of deaths slipped to 37.43.

Five deaths were reported: one each in Adams, Kenosha, Milwaukee, Oneida and St. Croix Counties. Additionally, deaths previously reported in Green and Vilas Counties were removed from the data, so the total death toll rose by three to 2,050.

All counties’ new case counts are below. Every county reported at least one new cases today; 61 reported 10 or more. Milwaukee had the most with 618 cases.
