With testing and reporting ramping up after the holidays, the state of Wisconsin reported just over 10,600 new coronavirus tests on Wednesday, of which 3,474 were positive, for a positive test rate of about 32.77 percent, the lowest daily rate in a week.
The seven-day positive rate for all people tested, which would be less subject to such data anomalies, fell after about 10 days of increases from 31.9 to 29.8, and the positive rate for all tests fell from 11.4 to 11.1. The number of active cases, however, increased to over 29,600 — about 5.9 percent of the 502,012 total cases the state has confirmed to date.
The state of Wisconsin also reported 42 COVID deaths on Friday, and two deaths previously reported were removed from the data, bringing the total death toll to 5,119. Since March, an additional 136 people have tested positive for COVID but died of other causes. The seven-day average of reported deaths rose to 35.7 and the 30-day average is now 44. The seven-day average of new cases per day jumped to 2,988.
