“Lands of Palestine,” a solidarity art show and silent auction of works by Madison artist Baz Sundark, will open on Oct. 3 and run through Indigenous Peoples’ Day, Oct 13. Proceeds from this auction will help provide food, replacement shelters, and replacement olive trees and sheep to Palestinian families impacted by settler and military violence and land theft in Masafer Yatta, located at the southern end of the West Bank.

Although bidding doesn’t start until Oc. 3  community members can view the auction listings now and may donate here.

The art will be available to view in person at Java Cat Coffee, 4221 Lein Road, from October 3-13, and the public is invited to a meet-and-greet evening with artist Baz Sundark at Java Cat on Thursday, Oct. 9, 5-6:30 p.m.

“These canvases were inspired by photographs of Masafer-Yatta, a rural region at the southernmost end of the West Bank, where shepherding communities are struggling to remain on their lands in the face of decades of settler-colonial aggression,” organizers said in a press release announcing the event. “The event seeks to honor and support the steadfast resistance of these villages.”

All proceeds will be donated to Masafer Yatta families through local nonprofit, Palestine Partners, an organization formed to help the women in Hebron Craft Cooperative to sell their work in the US, assist rural families, and provide information and educational resources about the situation faced by rural farming communities in Masafer Yatta.
