Artists invited to submit work to Madison College’s 5th Annual Dzigbodi Akyea Art Show

Artists are invited to participate in the 5th Annual Dzigbodi Akyea Art Show, on exhibit Feb. 2-27, 2026, which honors the countless ways “Black women have shaped our communities, our culture, and our future.”

This year’s theme is She Carried Us: Legacies of Labor, Love, and Liberation.”

The exhibit celebrates both the visible and invisible labor that has sustained generations, the love that has nurtured families and movements, and the “ongoing fight for liberation that continues to transform our world,” according to a press release from Madison College.

“Through creative, communal, and revolutionary work, Black women have shaped histories both personal and collective. This exhibition centers the often-overlooked contributions of Black women across generations: the hands that build, the hearts that hold, and the voices that challenge systems,” Madison College said in a press release.

“Artists of all backgrounds and disciplines are invited to reflect on the many roles Black women carry – creator, caregiver, visionary, advocate – and to explore the stories, memories, and lineages we inherit because of them.”

Artists are invited to submit work by Jan. 9, 2026.
