Original story:
Actor George Takei, who first became famous for as Mr. Sulu in the original Star Trek and who now has earned a massive following online, announced yesterday that he’s running for Congress against House Intelligence Committee Chair Devin Nunes.
The run was first reported by The Daily Buzz, but may well be an early April Fools joke.
If it was a joke, Takei got in on it.
Well, the cat’s out of the bag it seems. Let’s do this! #Takei2018https://t.co/Wf7qvV1eXj

The Daily Buzz reports that Takei, who currently lives in Los Angeles, bought a house in Visalia, California specifically to challenge Nunes, who is currently in hot water for bungling the investigation into Donald Trump’s allegations of surveillance by the Obama administration.
Takei, born in California to Japanese parents, was interned in a camp for Japanese Americans during World War II. He has been an outspoken critic of the Trump administration, especially as relates to immigration policies that single out certain nationalities and religions.
