Pleasant T. Rowland Foundation has awarded a $1 million grant to Centro Hispano of Dane County for its Campaign CENTRO, which is looking to raise $15 million to build a new home for the Latinx community on Madison’s south side and to seed development and expansion of the organization’s workforce and educational programs.
Centro Hispano is the leading organization serving Dane County’s Latinx community through a variety of youth programs, workforce development, family wrap-around support, and community engagement.
Centro hopes to complete the campaign by the end of this year so it can focus on celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2023, the organization said in a press release. Centro Hispano’s new home will be a two-story, 25,000-square-foot building with a large indoor/outdoor plaza at the corner of Hughes Place and Cypress Way, just blocks from its current home on Madison’s south side.
“This generous contribution from the Pleasant T. Rowland Foundation towards Centro’s future in Dane County speaks volumes not only about trust in our work but about the Foundation’s commitment to a thriving Latinx community,” says Centro Executive Director Karen Menendez Coller in a statement.
Pleasant T. Rowland Foundation’s gift brings the total raised to date to more than $12.4 million for Campaign CENTRO.
With the new facility and seed funds for program expansion, Centro Hispano will be able to support 1,000 more community members a year, double the youth enrolled in afterschool and summer programs and expand its Healthcare Career Program to include a Nursing Career Pathway by 2030, according to Centro Hispano’s website.
