Black Girl Magic Educational Services (BGMES), an organization focused on empowering Black girls in the Madison area, will co-host its first fundraiser in collaboration with Forward Madison at this Thursday’s game at Breese Stevens Field from 6-9 p.m.
Rosa Thompson, the founder and executive director of BGMES, talked with Madison365 about what she’s looking forward to for this event and why it was important for her and her fundraising team to be collaborating with Forward Madison.
“We’re very excited,” she said. “We hope it’s a very successful fundraiser. But, more importantly, we’re just excited to have a group of people out on Thursday night enjoying soccer and learning about soccer if they don’t know about it and having a great time.”
Thompson is also glad to expose BGM families to soccer in Madison. At Thursday’s game, Forward Madison FC will host the Richmond Kickers. Currently in fifth place in USL League One, Forward Madison will look to fortify its spot in the playoffs with a win.
Thompson is grateful for this fundraising opportunity and exciting event for BGM participants and their families.
“It’s just gonna be fun,” she added. “We get a whole section that’s just for people who buy their tickets through Black Girl Magic.”
Everyone is welcome to this event, even community members who are not involved with Black Girl Magic. Thompson also mentioned that if there are supporters who are able to purchase tickets for those who are not able to afford the event, to do so and reach out to her so she can get them to the individuals.
BGM youth employees will be staffing a resource table before the game to help get the word out about services and programming from the organization.
“We also are just excited for this new partnership and being recognized as the nonprofit of the game is pretty exciting for us,” Thompson added. “We can’t wait.”
