The Madison Black Chamber of Commerce will host a new event on Thursday, April 17, at Findorff in downtown Madison where they will bring together Black business leaders, entrepreneurs and workers in the construction industry.

“Connecting Diversity With Opportunity” coincides with the chamber’s Black Business Awards Gala earlier this year. The theme, which was centered on construction and building lasting legacies, continues with a new mixer in its line of events. The Madison Black Chamber of Commerce has partnered with Findorff to help its members expand their opportunities within construction.

“We have been working really hard to prepare our businesses to level up,” said Camille Carter, CEO of the Black Chamber of Commerce. “It’s predicated based on the work that we have been doing and will continue to do, particularly in this environment, it’s very important that our businesses continue to have opportunities to network.”

In its push to prepare businesses to “level up,” the Black Chamber wants to advance opportunities, certification and procurement in construction. Procurement is one of the focal points in its efforts to assist its businesses.

The process involves getting themselves on lists by filling our applications with city, state and county agencies. It can take a while— from a few weeks to months — but Carter said it’s important to help businesses meet these goals and match with opportunities.

“Sometimes it depends on how motivated the business is,” she said. “But we’re here working with our businesses and helping them navigate through that process.”

Thursday’s event will look to “foster meaningful connections between Black professionals and industry leaders, creating pathways to employment, leadership, and business growth,” according to a press release from the Madison Black Chamber.

“Connecting Diversity With Opportunity” will be held Thursday, April 17, 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Findorff, 300 South Bedford St. in downtown Madison. It is free to attend; registration is required.
