Madison Memorial High, Jefferson Middle Schools evacuated after “detailed” bomb threat

Madison Police have given students and staff at Madison Memorial High School and Jefferson Middle School the all-clear to safely return to their school buildings, according to an email from the Madison Metropolitan School District.

Madison Memorial High School and Jefferson Middle School have received an all-clear from the City of Madison Police Department (MPD) after a detailed bomb threat was called in to the the Dane County 911 Center just before 11 am today, which resulted in an immediate and full evacuation of both buildings, according to a school district official. Students and staff safely evacuated to predetermined assembly locations near their schools. After both schools were swept by MPD officers and specialized K-9 units, MPD determined it safe for students and staff to return to both school buildings. MPD continues to investigate the origin of the threat. All students and staff are in the process of safely returning to their school buildings and will resume their regular school schedule.

“We are very proud of all our scholars who did an excellent job following safety procedures making this unexpected transition as smooth as it could be,” a district spokesman said in an email.

As a “precautionary measure,” Madison Memorial High School and Jefferson Middle School School Students and Staff have been evacuated from the school buildings as a result of a “detailed bomb threat,” according to an email from district administration Monday.
Madison school disrict spokesman Timothy LeMond said the threat was called in to the county’s 911 dispatch center.
Memorial students have been safely evacuated to West Towne Mall and Jefferson Students have been safely evacuated to John Muir Elementary, district officials said, adding that all staff and students are safe. LeMond said that as of about noon Monday, district officials expect students to return to their schools and finish the day as normal. Parents should not need to make any special arrangements for transportation.
The Madison Police Department is on scene and investigating the threat.
