UPDATE: Governor Tony Evers has now ordered all schools in Wisconsin closed March 18 until at least April 6. More information here.

Madison students will be out of school from March 19-29 in an effort to stem the spread of the novel coronavirus. Classes will resume March 30.

In a special meeting Friday afternoon, the Board of Education approved a plan developed by administrative staff to move the beginning of spring break from March 30 to March 23, and to add a staff-only professional development day on March 19.

March 20 was already scheduled as a staff-only professional development day.

A press conference to provide additional details is scheduled for 4:30 pm Friday.

On Thursday, Governor Tony Evers declared a state health emergency, making funding and resources available to assist in containment and mitigation efforts. On Friday, President Donald Trump also declared a federal emergency.
