Betty Shelby, the Tulsa police officer who shot and killed the unarmed motorist Terence Crutcher on Friday, has been charged with first-degree manslaughter, and a warrant issued for her arrest.

The charge was announced by Tulsa County District Attorney Stephen Kunzweiler at a press conference today.

Shelby, a five-year veteran of the Tulsa police force, shot and killed Crutcher, 40, after coming upon him and his disabled vehicle on her way to another call. Speaking through her attorney, Shelby has said Crutcher was uncooperative and that she believed he was on drugs. She said she was “scared” when he reached into the car’s open window.

The incident was caught on video from both a police dashboard camera as well as a helicopter camera.
