Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley has officially joined the race for governor of Wisconsin.

Crowley, a community organizer from humble beginnings in Milwaukee who went on to serve in the state assembly, talked about his accomplishments in an announcement video (below) released Tuesday, telling voters that “I am you.”

“I’m running for governor because I know what it’s like to struggle — and I’ve spent my life fighting to make sure no one gets left behind,” Crowley said. “Every Wisconsinite, no matter where they live, deserves opportunity, safety, and a government that works. That’s what this campaign is about — delivering for all of us.”

Crowley is the second Democrat to announce his bid for Wisconsin governor, joining Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez, who declared her candidacy just days after Governor Tony Evers announced that he was not running for a third term.

Crowley, 39, became the first Black person ever elected Milwaukee County executive in 2020.
