BARNEVELD, Wis. – The Barneveld community is coming together to financially support a family after a fatal car accident took the life of Anthony DeJesus.

DeJesus, his wife and two young children moved to Barneveld from Arizona in search of a better life this summer.

“They’re just a tight-knit family, they love each other dearly. You could see it when you see them around,” said neighbor Ashley Meudt.

On December 14th, DeJesus was involved in a fatal, single vehicle crash after he careened off of Highway 151 near Verona. His car cleared the median, crashing on Highway PB, below.

“He had been up since 3 a.m. that morning and left for work at five,” Meudt said. “(Officers) think he fell asleep.”

Verona PD confirmed Tuesday that DeJesus passed away due to injuries sustained during the crash.

“He worked so hard,” Meudt said.  “He just wanted to provide for his family and for his wife…They have no family here. They don’t know anybody. I just don’t want (his wife) to have to worry about any of this.”

Meudt says she’s organized a fundraiser (you can find a link here) to help pay to send DeJesus’ body back to Arizona as well as cover burial fees.

“They’re just such a great family,” she said. “Nobody deserves this. They just need all the help they can get.”
