Morning commuters, especially in western Dane County, are encouraged to use extreme caution driving this morningm, according to a release from Dane County Emergency Management.
Following a record amount of rainfall in a 24-hour period, significant flooding is ongoing in the Black Earth, Mazomanie, and Cross Plains areas,the release said. Water remains over a number of roads and dozens of water rescues were performed by emergency responders overnight.
Reverse 911 is being used to encourage residents of Mazomanie east of Bridge Street and north of Hudson to evacuate immediately. A temporary shelter has been established at the Mazomanie Village Hall/Fire Station. Black Earth Creek continues to rise and has already surpassed its previous record high level. The Highway 14 bridge over Black Earth Creek is reported to be damaged or possibly washed out.
