T.R. Williams is this year’s recipient of the State Bar of Wisconsin’s Diversity & Inclusion Trailblazer Award, the State Bar announced on Monday.
The award is presented annually by the State Bar’s Diversity & Inclusion Oversight Committee and honors individuals who “have made significant, lasting contributions to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in Wisconsin’s legal community.”
“T.R. is a passionate and relentless advocate for women in leadership and racial equity, and she has improved health benefits in Black and Brown communities,” said Judge Kori Ashley, committee chair, in a statement. “Her leadership has had a profound impact on our community.”
Williams brings decades of cross-sector leadership to her work and currently serves as assistant deputy secretary for the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, according to a press release from the State Bar of Wisconsin. Her past roles include executive director for a health policy organization on the East Coast and campaign fundraising specialist for United Way of Dane County. Across every position, Williams has worked to expand access, build equity, and challenge institutional norms.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Williams generously shares her expertise through service to organizations including the State Bar of Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Public Health Association, the Wisconsin Policy Forum, United Way, the Greater Milwaukee Urban League, and The Foundation for Black Women’s Wellness.
