Private attorney Tearman Spencer handily defeated Grant Langley to take over as Milwaukee city attorney, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Spencer earned 61 percent of the vote last Tuesday.

Spencer campaigned on the city’s large bills for settlements and judgments in police misconduct cases, which have cost the city more than $20 million in the last five years.

Last Monday, Spencer revealed that he has tested positive for coronavirus infection.
