The UW athletic department will be making a major change Friday when it moves from adidas to Under Armour for its apparel.
The Badgers had been with adidas for the last 15 years, but the new deal with Under Armour will provide $96 million over the next 10 years.
That’s nearly five times what the UW’s previous deal with adidas provided.
Under Armour is seen as the future of athletic apparel.
“They’ve proven that they’ve been able to come to the market with a new idea- a new product- it started with a fabric,” says UW Associate Athletic Director Chris McIntosh.
“We feel like we’re putting- making available to our student-athletes the best product that ‘s out there– the most innovative product out there- a product that they can feel good in when they put on that uniform – when you put on that workout shirt, you feel good wearing it . And so if you feel good, you play a little better.”
The UW will host “Night of the New Red Threads” – an introduction to the new partnership with Wisconsin and Under Armour. The event begins at 10 pm Thursday night at Camp Randall Stadium.
