The Foundation for Black Women’s Wellness (FFBWW), a Madison non-profit organization focused on energizing, mobilizing and supporting Black Women to transform their health and their lives through education, advocacy, support, and powerful partnerships, will host its second annual block party and community resource fair on Saturday, June 29, noon-4 p.m., at Brittingham Park, 829 W. Washington Ave.

The block party will be a fun-filled day to enjoy music, food, games, camaraderie, and community engagement activities.

Nicki Cooper, a health care and early childhood professional, is a certified community health worker for The Foundation for Black Women’s Wellness Community Health Initiatives team.

“This event is about bringing community out and helping them become aware of the many resources that are available to them in the community. We will have information and resource vendor tables available for people to visit,” Cooper tells Madison365. “It’s about having a good time, eating together, dancing together and loving on each other while we’re in that space. There will be a lot of activities for the families and their children.”

As The Foundation for Black Women’s Wellness Community Health Initiatives team hosts its second annual block party, the goal of the event, according to organizers, will be “to build bridges, empower minds, and unlock the limitless possibilities that lie within our resource-rich community.

The Peter Buffett Kingston Foundation is also asking for help from local businesses and community members to collaborate in providing resources and support for the event. Their participation will not only enhance the experience but also strengthen the bonds within the community, ensuring that everyone can contribute to the success of this vibrant celebration.

“The Foundation For Black Women’s Wellness understands the importance of accessible resources and safe spaces for Black women and their families to build a resilient and supportive community, fostering empowerment, health, and collective well-being,” Lisa Peyton, founder, president, and CEO of the Foundation for Black Women’s Wellness (FFBWW), tells Madison365. “This Saturday’s Block Party will offer a glimpse of the Foundation For Black Women’s Wellness’ network of support.”

The event, hosted by the FFBWW Community Health Initiatives team, will feature a meal prepared by Rib Masters and a dance party hosted by DJ Tone Capone. The Madison Children’s Museum will provide hands-on activities that will keep kids of all ages entertained and engaged.

“We’re gonna have mascots there … Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse and Paw Patrol will be there,” Cooper says. “We’re gonna have Rib Masters providing great food.

“There’s going to be some people coming to do row boating with the people that attend, and for those who don’t know how [to row], they will teach them how to rowboat,” she adds. “There will be resource tables and yoga and face painting for the kids. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Saturday will be a day for advocating for Black women’s health as a community and public health priority.

“We are targeting Black women and families… We want to educate, unify and celebrate,” Cooper says. “It’s about making sure that people have the resources they need and having fun, of course, but also building some camaraderie. It’s about getting to know people and celebrating the people in our community.”
