The Wisconsin Department of Administration (DOA) has awarded Affordable Dental Care (ADC) a $700,000 grant for its efforts to expand on Madison’s North Side.

Affordable Dental Care, a dental clinic that provides affordable care for uninsured and underinsured patients, received the funds through the Grants for Local Projects program. The program under the DOA was launched in 2019 to provide funds for organizations with projects for statewide public purposes. Affordable Dental Care is currently underway on an expansion project to move its clinic from Fordem Avenue to 1709 Aberg Ave. It was one of 50 organizations to receive funds from a pool of $50 million through the program.

The new clinic being built aims to double its impact. Affordable Dental Care realized its need to expand its clinic after seeing a large uptick of patients in Madison and those around the state and Illinois. The area ADC sits has few dental clinics — with even less affordable.

Its new space will allow for more patients to be reached. Currently, ADC serves around 2,700 patients, many who are receiving dental care for the first time or coming in for emergency visits. The expanded space aims to increase patients to 5,000 and, ideally, expand hours into Friday to reach even more who need emergency care.

Affordable Dental Care is just a month out from opening the new location after breaking ground June 27.

A grand opening of the new location will be held on Nov. 11 at 1709 Aberg Ave. from 3:30-4:30 p.m. A live stream will also be available for those who can’t make it out on Affordable Dental Care’s Instagram page.
