The Wisconsin Latino Chamber of Commerce will host its annual International Women’s Celebration today

The annual celebration looks to highlight Latina-owned businesses in Wisconsin. It features panel-based discussions on leadership and entrepreneurship, workshops with industry experts, a marketplace with over 15 Latina-owned businesses, networking opportunities and its annual Poderosa Awards.

“It’s a place where everybody can get together and get to see all the women entrepreneurs in the area,” said Desiree Gonzalez, marketing coordinator with the Latino Chamber. “We want to show the community that there are women entrepreneurs, women-owned businesses in the community and we want them to gain customers, sell their products and their services.”

New this year will be the inclusion of Latina-owned food trucks posted outside of its building and a DJ. Food trucks include soon to be officially El Gran Taco Gato and Las Milpas — a restaurant and store in Baraboo.

This year’s emcee will be Ambassador Claudia Fanco Hijuelos, head consul of Mexico in Milwaukee. Ambassador Hijuelos has served around the country in various diplomatic positions, as head of economic development initiatives and director for Asia-Pacific Affairs.

She will head the first panel of the celebration where she will speak on leadership in business and communities from 9-11 a.m.

Two workshops will be held at 10-10:45 a.m. and 11-11:45 a.m. The earlier of the two will discuss financial opportunities in businesses. The second will be leading with confidence. Capacity is limited to 60 people per workshop on a first come first serve basis.

The market will be held from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. with vendors selling culturally relevant goods from jewelry to flowers.

International Women’s Day Celebration will be held from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Latino Chamber, 5262 Anton Dr., Fitchburg. It is free to attend; registration is required.
