The body found in Lake Mendota yesterday was Julie Bush Metcalfe, the wife of prominent businessman Tim Metcalfe, a family spokesperson said.
The Metcalfe family released a statement saying: “[We] would like to thank everyone for their sympathy and prayers. Today, we lost a member of our family and are grieving. Julie Bush Metcalfe was a wonderful mother, wife, daughter and business owner. We ask that you give us time to cope with the loss of our loved one. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.”
A forensic autopsy completed yesterday confirmed that 51-year-old Julie B. Metcalfe’s death was due to drowning, according to the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office.
A spokesperson for the Metcalfe family said Bush Metcalfe had been suffering from depression and her death appears to have been a suicide.
Tim Metcalfe is president and co-owner of Metcalfe’s Market, which operates three supermarkets in Madison and Wauwatosa. He also organizes Brat Fest, a large four-day festival at Alliant Energy Center. Boys and Girls Club of Dane County CEO Michael Johnson was very close to the Metcalfe family as they were huge supporters of the Boys and Girls Club’s work and all of their fundraisers. Johnson left this statement on Metcalfe’s Facebook page.
“No matter how devastating our struggles may be, disappointments, and troubles are only temporary. No matter what happens to us, no matter the depth of tragedy or pain we face, no matter how a loss may burden us, our faith and love from others protect us from immeasurable pain we feel during the loss of a loved one.
A husband’s commitment and love for his wife is second to none and may her memories give you peace and comfort. I am here and will always be here for you, Tim! Love you, man, and know you are loved by so many my friend. RIP Julie Bush Metcalfe … you are a beautiful soul.”
Pastor Chris Dolson addressed the passing of Julie Bush Metcalfe last night at Blackhawk Church. Details of the funeral arrangements for Julie Bush Metcalfe have yet to be confirmed.
