The Focused Interruption Coalition, a group formed to address systemic root causes of violence, has endorsed incumbent Fitchburg Mayor Steve Arnold and Alder candidate Wanda Smith in today’s primary elections and the general election April 4.

“Steve and Wanda hold safety and equity as their top priorities,” said Coalition member and Fitchburg resident Jerome Dillard in a statement. “They know one is never present without the other and have shown strong interest in implementing our 15-Point Violence Prevention Plan. I plan to vote for Steve today and both he and Wanda on April 4th.”

The 15-Point Plan has already been endorsed by the Madison Common Council, which has allocated funds to begin implementation this year.

“Equity and justice are the driving forces behind our work as a coalition and we partner with those working for authentic change,” said coalition member Zandra Hagberg. “Wanda and Steve are just those people. Both are committed to continue working with us in answering the unmet needs of the growing and further diversifying population in the city of Fitchburg.”

Smith will face off against Anne Scott for a seat on the Fitchburg Common Council representing District 1.

Arnold faces a primary challenge from Marc Jones and Jason Gonzales, who is vying to become the first Latino mayor of Fitchburg. The top two votegetters in today’s primary will run in the general election April 4.

Coalition Members include Anthony Cooper, Minister Caliph Muab’El, Jerome Dillard, Aaron Hicks, Zandra Hagberg, Richard Harris, Martin Lackey, Minister Daniel Davis and Jackie Morris.
