Nationally recognized youth advocate Prenicia Clifton is releasing her debut children’s book titled “The Self-Esteem Queen: Queen Ashante’s Journey to Self-Love and Acceptance.”
This inspiring story is the first saga in her mental health series, “The Brain Superheroes,” a collection designed to equip children with emotional tools to navigate everyday challenges through empowering storytelling.
“My goal is to help children feel seen, supported, and powerful,” says Clifton, who is also a mental health educator and an accomplished opera singer. “Mental health tools shouldn’t be complicated or inaccessible. Through ‘The Brain Superheroes,’ I want to make emotional wellness something every child can explore and grow into, one page at a time.”
In “The Self-Esteem Queen,” readers follow the journey of Queen Ashante, a young girl who faces bullying and self-doubt but discovers her inner strength with the help of a powerful Brain Superhero. Through colorful characters and relatable experiences, the book encourages self-love, confidence, and the power of positive self-talk — key protective factors for youth mental health.
Each story in “The Brain Superheroes” series is paired with an interactive 30-day workbook, designed to help readers practice and internalize the mental health protective factor taught in the book. These workbooks offer guided reflections, engaging activities, and daily affirmations to reinforce confidence, resilience, emotional regulation, and other critical skills.
Clifton is the founder of Seein is Believin, an organization dedicated to addressing the many needs of youth, and has over two decades of experience in youth programming and personal experience navigating chronic health and mental wellness challenges, where she is committed to creating culturally responsive resources that inspire, educate, and heal.
