Milwaukee-based positive news company Carvd N Stone’s founder has been selected to join Goldman Sachs’ One Million Black Women: Black in Business program.
Nyesha Stone, founder and publisher of Carvd N Stone, is one of around 1,000 Black women entrepreneurs around the country. The program was created by a $10 billion investment and $100 million in philanthropic capital committed towards increasing opportunity where it can make a difference. One Million Black Women has deployed $4.1 billion in investment capital and $44 million in philanthropic capital to date since its start in 2021.
“Being accepted into this program just means that I am on the right path, and that positive news
is a viable and sustainable business model,” Stone said. “Business programs like this give me
the direct business insight individuals get from attending business school or working in
Corporate.”
This opportunity is part of a 10-year plan Stone has worked on. Carvd N Stone was founded in 2017 when Stone was still in college at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Stone graduated in 2018 with a degree in journalism. She didn’t have any solid business knowledge at the time, but has grown an acumen for it throughout her nearly decade long journey with Carvd N Stone. Since 2019, Stone has been in several different business accelerator programs.
“With us almost reaching our 10 year in 2027, I’m like, this is the perfect time for us to really hone in on what type of team members do we want and how do we want to grow? This program is specifically built for that,” Stone said.
Over the past couple years, Stone has ventured into broader partnerships like with Amazon to produce an exclusive story telling series.
Stone’s plan is to take Carvd N Stone international. While it does already cover news around the nation, Stone wants to have local hubs around the country and, eventually, the world.
“This is all part of the plan. All these little steps,” Stone said. “It’s all of what I’ve already been planning since I’ve been at UWM, being a really big platform, a business that can employ and provide career jobs to journalists and all around positivity.”
She will travel to New Jersey for the program in March at Goldman Sachs’ office. Months of virtual programming will follow over the next few months and will cap off with a graduation back in New Jersey in July.
