The Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company will bring its dance-theater work “Still/Here” to Shannon Hall at Memorial Union on Wednesday, March 18, 7:30 p.m. as part of the Wisconsin Union Theater’s (WUT’s) 2025–2026 season.
Created three decades ago and recently reimagined for contemporary audiences, “Still/Here” blends dance, spoken word and multimedia elements to explore the themes of resilience, identity and shared humanity.
Bill T. Jones, a co-founder of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company, used a series of survival workshops, including one with WUT in 1994, to develop the piece, according to a press release from the Wisconsin Union Theater, and the company also performed “Still/Here” at Memorial Union that same year. “Still/Here” incorporates the experiences of people living with serious illnesses. It has been described as a testament to survival and strength and a call to recognize that illness does not define a person’s value.
“The Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company uses movement and multimedia elements to reflect the complexities of the human experience in ways only art can,” said Wisconsin Union Public Relations and Communications Officer Shauna Breneman in a press release. “Co-founder Bill T. Jones has been transforming modern dance for decades and is one of the most acclaimed choreographers in the world.”
Founded through the collaboration of Jones and the late Arnie Zane, the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company is recognized internationally for works that combine dance with social commentary and innovative theatrical art.
Jones is an artist, choreographer, dancer, theater director and writer. He has received two Tony Awards, the National Medal of the Arts, a Kennedy Center Honor, a MacArthur Fellowship and many other distinctions. He serves as artistic director and choreographer of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company and as artistic director of New York Live Arts.
Tickets range from $8 to $69 and can be purchased online, in person at the Memorial Union Box Office or by phone at 608-265-2787.
