Centro’s “Mercado” community market, now in its 10th season, will take place at Centro Hispano of Dane County this afternoon from 4-7 p.m.
Mercadito officially restarted last week, July 25, for the first time at Centro Hispano’s new home, Calli, taking advantage of Centro’s new exterior and interior plaza at 2403 Cypress Way.
Vendors will include fruits and vegetables from Central and South America, Latinx street food, local honey, Colombian barista coffee, and more. Mercadito features fun for families, activities, art, good food, music, and a place for connection and resources.
“Mercadito was created 10 years ago with the goal of holding a space where Latinx throughout Dane County would be able to find traditional Latin American products from local Latinx producers,” Centro Hispano said in a press release. “Centro wants to keep opening this space where families can gather and have a sense of community, a symbol of authentic community engagement where everyone can come, get to know flavorful ingredients, share advice in community, grow social connections, and add some spice to their Thursday afternoons.”
In addition to the vibrant market stalls, this year’s Mercadito will feature live music performances from local musicians. The market aims to be a sensory experience, where the sounds, smells, and tastes of Latin America come to life in the heart of Madison and in Dane County.
