Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning Dr. Silvia Romero-Johnson will moderate a panel discussion titled “Creating an Equitable Leadership Pipeline in Education” on Tuesday, October 11, the second day of the Wisconsin Leadership Summit.

Dr. Silvia Romero-Johnson is currently serving as the Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning for the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District – becoming the first Hispanic woman to hold an Assistant Superintendent position in Middleton-Cross Plains. Previously, Dr. Romero-Johnson served as the Director of Bilingual Programs and Instructional Equity in the Verona Area School District in Verona, WI. Throughout her career, Dr. Romero-Johnson has served in the education field in a variety of capacities including as interim Chief Academic Officer and assistant superintendent for the Office of English Learners in the Boston Public Schools and executive director of the Office of Multilingual and Global Education in the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) where she led the district’s transition from transitional bilingual education to dual language immersion education. Dr. Romero-Johnson was also the principal of Nuestro Mundo Community School, MMSD’s first two-way bilingual immersion charter school. Dr. Silvia Romero-Johnson is an active participant in various organizations such as the American Educational Research Association, the School Superintendents Association, and the Massachusetts Association for Bilingual Education. She is also an adjunct professor at various institutions of higher education. Silvia is also the co-author of the book Advancing Equity for Dual Language Program-A Guide for Leaders and was selected as one of Madison365’s Sí Se Puede 2021: Wisconsin’s 36 Most Influential Latino Leaders.
