Dane County coronavirus growth continues to slow, 43 new cases confirmed today

Dane County confirmed 43 new coronavirus cases today, which brings the County’s total to 3,666. Of those total cases, 1,108 are considered active. The number of active cases has continued to drop the past few days.

Those aged in their 20s had the most cases today with 16, while those in their 40s added six more cases to their total. Children under 10 and aged 10-19 had added five more cases each while those in their 50s added four. Three new cases were also added to those in their 30s and 80s while those in their 60s and 90s grew by 1.

Dane County reported no new deaths which keeps the total death toll in the county at 33, and total hospitalizations for the county for COVID-19 remained at 267. Currently, there are 28 people hospitalized with five in the ICU.

Of the 43 new cases reported today, two, or 4.65 percent of all new cases, are attributed to those identify as Hispanic or Latinx. They now make up 15.11 percent of all COVID-19 related cases in the County while only making up six percent of the population. There were also five, or 11.63 percent of all new cases, attributed to those who identify as Black. They now make up 12.79 percent of all cases while only making up six percent of the population in Dane County.

As the number of negative tests reported is lagged by several days, the most updated data on positive test percentage for a day is for July 15, with the positive test percentage has been updated to 3.9 percent while updated numbers now have July 14 at 12.3 percent, July 13 at 3.6 percent, July 12 at 3.9 percent and July 11 at 2.9 percent. Initial data for July 19 – July 16 is available on the dashboard, however, Madison365 expects that these numbers will adjust considerably as more negative and positive tests are attributed to those dates in the coming days. In partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Dane County and Madison365, more pop up, drive-thru testing centers will be taking place again today. You can read more about dates, times and the specific sites in our previous story. Testing is still available today at Alliant Energy Center from 8 am – 4 pm. Yesterday, Public Health of Madison and Dane County reported no wait after 9:30 am.
