Dr. Shon Barnes accepts job as Madison police chief

    Dr. Shon Barns tells News 3 Now he has accepted an offer from the city to become the next police chief of the Madison Police Department and is in the process of completing formal paperwork for the position.

    The PFC voted to offer Dr. Shon Barnes the job of police chief on a 3-2 vote Friday afternoon.

    Dr. Barnes began his law enforcement career as a patrol officer in 2000 at the Greensboro Police Department in North Carolina and moving up through the ranks to captain. Most recently, he served as the deputy police chief in Salisbury, North Carolina before accepting a position in 2020 as Director of Training and Professional Development for the Civilian Office of Police Accountability in Chicago.
